OFF THE GRID

Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one: and every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labour. For we are labourers together with God: ye are God's husbandry, ye are God's building. (1Cor 3:8-9)

In the not so distant past, and still in undeveloped parts of this world, the only “grid” people lived on was their willingness to help one another in their daily chores. When someone needed help, such as in a catastrophe, everyone on that grid was there to lend a hand.

Today the world is connected by wires, both seen and unseen. We no longer, those of us living in civilized countries, have much interpersonal contact, preferring to communicate by way of airwaves, even when that person digitally communicating is sitting on the same bench as the person they are “talking” to.

Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits. (Rom 12:16)

For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. (Rom 8:14)

For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. (2Tim 3:6-7)

When contact with others was rare, what was happening in the world around a person was essentially unknown. News was carried by travelers, who might well have been inundated by those desiring to ask them questions about the events occurring elsewhere. Of course this news could have easily been slanted or miscommunicated, but if nothing else, it served as a simple and innocuous form of entertainment. It was unlikely to influence the listener beyond the moment the message is heard. Today, on the other hand, we take for granted that the news flashed repeatedly in our face is corrupt and distorted.

Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. (Mat 7:15)

For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies: (Mat 15:19)

When there was no grid that connected the emotions and the minds of people with the outside world, it was fairly easy to maintain a relatively innocent posture. Those who desired to remain as pure as possible could easily do so, while others not so inclined had to seek gratification in an area unaccepted by the society in which they lived. Now that we are all connected to the grid of the mind, those in control of the grid are able to bombard our eyes, our ears, and our soul with material unfit for even the worst of scoundrels.

These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you. But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. (John 14:25-26)

But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him. (1John 2:27)

For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. (Rom 8:5)

There is nothing wrong in itself with being connected to a grid. What makes the difference is which grid we choose to have our mind connected to. The world tries to keep our mind in tune with the garbage it desires to feed us. Jesus, however, brought to us another grid that connects us to the Father Himself. But as in any other endeavor, our mind can not be connected to two sources at the same time. This is especially true when those sources are at opposite ends of the spectrum. Paul tells us:

Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be. Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter? (James 3:10-11)

A double minded man is unstable in all his ways. (James 1:8)

For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. (Gal 5:17)

If we're in tune with the Spirit of God, then our nature will be to reject and to be repulsed by the things of this corrupt world.

I am come in my Father's name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive. How can ye believe, which receive honour one of another, and seek not the honour that cometh from God only? (John 5:43)

For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect. (Mark 13:22)

Those who have formed a habit of hearing the Spirit will recognize the voice and the appearing of their Master. Those who have been accustomed to receiving mixed messages will be led astray by the false teachers so prevalent in the world today.

And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues. (Rev 18:4)

I rarely hear or see television or radio anymore, since I have neither in my home. But when I happen to visit friends, those who deem themselves Christian, they usually have at least one television playing, which they are likely to be watching at the time. I find I am appalled at what comes over the airwaves, that disturb my soul, yet seem to have no effect on those accustomed to what I hear. It appears that violence, obscenity, torrid humor and blatant sex has become just another part of their daily existence. I can't help but wonder if those connected to such a grid will be able to hear the voice of the Shepherd when He calls for His people to “come out of her my people.”
